About 5,000 indigenes of Anambra State, have received livelihood and business support tools through an empowerment programme facilitated by the wife of the State governor, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo.
The beneficiaries, drawn from the 21 local government areas of the State, received a range of income-generating assets, including; sewing machines, grinding machines, calipers, generator sets, hair dryers, power chillers, deep freezers, among others.
In addition, the beneficiaries also receive N10,000 cash each.
Address Journalists shortly after the distribution ceremony, held at the banquet hall Light House Awka, on Thursday, September 24th, 2026, Mrs Soludo said the empowerment programme was designed to provide beneficiaries with practical means of earning income, rather than relying solely on one-off financial assistance.
She said the gesture was part of her responsibility as the first lady of the State and a philanthropist to listen to the people and use available opportunities to facilitate interventions that can improve their livelihoods.
She said that providing productive assets could give the beneficiaries the opportunity to become economically self-reliant while contributing to economic activity to their families and within their various communities.
“It could also avail them thevopportunity to train others.
“This empowerment is not just for women, it’s for women, youth, men, everybody and it cut across political line.
“With the latest intervention programme, the Anambra first lady who is also the founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, said she would continue to support programmes aimed at strengthening livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities across the state.
“For the beneficiaries, the equipments are expected to expand their existing businesses or establish new ones, Mrs Soludo stressed.
She urged them to make judicious used of the economic items to uplift their lives, their families and their various communities as a whole.
The beneficiaries, in their unanimous appreciation, pray to God to continue to bless the governor’s wife for her persistent support to their socio-economic needs.
The ceremony featured the formal handing over of the items to the deserving beneficiaries.
