The wife of Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has hailed nurses across the country, saying their contributions to the development of the healthcare sector go beyond medical duties, as they bring hope, comfort and humanity to healthcare and the society at large.
Soludo, who is also the founder of the non-governmental organisation, ‘Healthy living with Nonye Soludo’, described nurses as unsung heroes whose compassion and dignity speak louder than words.
The Anambra first lady stated this in a press statement she released on Tuesday, in commemoration of the International Council of Nurses Day, celebrated globally on May 12.
She wished every nurse a happy International Nurses Day and urged them to sustain their commitment to quality healthcare delivery.
The day highlights the nursing workforce’s potential to drive health and economic resilience on a global scale, ensuring that the gaps in recruitment and investment in the healthcare sector are urgently addressed.
Speaking on the theme for this year, titled, “Our nurses, our future – Empowered nurses save lives’, the governor’s wife noted that nurses’ duties come with compassion and dignity that transform the healthcare delivery.
She said, “Today, we celebrate the unsung heroes whose compassion and dignity speak louder than words — our nurses.
“Behind every recovering patient is a dedicated nurse who stayed awake through the night, offered reassurance in moments of fear and anxiety, and gave care with patience, strength, and love.
“Their service goes beyond medicine; they bring hope, comfort, and humanity to healthcare and our society.
“On this International Nurses Day, I honour the dedication, sacrifice, and resilience of nurses in Anambra State and beyond.
“Your commitment continues to save lives, strengthen families, and uphold the dignity of our communities every single day.
“Thank you for all you do. The world is healthier, kinder, and safer because of you. Happy International Nurses Day!”
