    By Michael Ovat -Awka

Mr Nnanna Oji Ama, has showcase his successful one-month operational achievements as the 36th Commissioner of Police in Anambra State.

He said the success story was as a result of the strong collaboration between the operatives of the Command, sister agencies, civil society organizations and the media.

Ama stated this via his address presented during the operational visit of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 13 Ukpo, AIG Miller Gajere Dantawaye, to the Command’s headquarters in Amawbia -Awka on Friday.

He said Dantawaye operational visit to the Command alongside his entourage is a clear demonstration of the commitment of the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to effective supervision, professional policing, operational efficiency and the welfare of personnel in the state and the county as a whole.

According to CP Ama, since my assumption of office as the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, on 10th August 2026, our policing strategy has remained firmly anchored on intelligence-led operations, community policing, inter-agency collaboration, accountability and the strategic deployment of technology.

“A major priority has been to strengthen the relationship between the Police and the communities we serve.

“In this regard, the Command has undertaken security stakeholder engagements across the three Senatorial Districts of the State, bringing together traditional rulers, Presidents-General, religious leaders, market leaders, youth and women groups, Local Government stakeholders and other critical community actors.

“These engagements have enabled us to listen directly to the concerns of Ndi Anambra, identify security challenges peculiar to different communities and develop practical, collective responses.

“We have also sustained engagements with Presidents-General and other community leadership structures, in recognition of the fact that effective security is a shared responsibility.

Similarly, our relationship with sister security agencies has been strengthened through regular consultations, joint operational planning, intelligence sharing and coordinated deployments.

“Sir, within this relatively short period, the Command has recorded notable operational achievements.

“Our operatives have successfully facilitated the rescue and safe return of three kidnapped victims, including the prominent cases involving Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor and a Reverend Father, among other victims.

“The Command has also arrested 57 suspects linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, murder and other serious crimes, while recovering 18 firearms, 43 rounds of ammunition and other incriminating items.of particular significance was the successful operation that led to the destruction of a criminal camp at Amiyi, Ogbaru Local Government Area, thereby disrupting the operational base of criminal elements operating in the area.

“In addition, the Command successfully coordinated the security arrangements for the visit of the Wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Anambra State on 10th September 2026.

“The visit was conducted without any security incident, reflecting the effectiveness of our operational planning, coordination and deployment.

“The Command has equally continued to place strong emphasis on professional investigation, accountability and the protection of the rights of citizens.

“A recent example is the investigation into the murder of a nursing student in Alor.

“Through sustained investigation and credible intelligence, the Command arrested the actual suspect and established the facts surrounding the incident, including the exoneration of an earlier suspect.

“This underscores our commitment to professional investigations, due process and the protection of innocent persons from wrongful criminal allegations.

“We have also made it unequivocally clear to all personnel that extortion, corruption, abuse of power and other forms of unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated. Personnel have equally been directed to remain disciplined, civil, responsive and professional at all times.

“Sir, we recognise that effective policing is dependent not only on operations, but also on the welfare, training and
    motivation of personnel.

“The Command will therefore continue to prioritise discipline, capacity building, mentorship and the welfare of officers and men, as these remain essential to operational effectiveness and public confidence.

“Another significant achievement during this period was the successful coordination of security arrangements for the recently conducted Local Government Election in Anambra State on Saturday August 29th, 2026.

“Through effective planning, inter-agency coordination and strategic deployment, the election was conducted without major security incidents, enabling citizens to exercise their civic responsibilities in a relatively peaceful and secure environment.

“The Command is also repositioning itself to meet the evolving demands of modern policing. I wish to inform you that we have incorporated the use of drones into our operational strategy, particularly for surveillance, intelligence gathering, monitoring difficult terrains and supporting ground operations.

“We are equally strengthening the application of technology in our command-and-control systems and operational monitoring.

“Our objective is to ensure that deployments are intelligence-driven, timely and precise, while reducing unnecessary risks to personnel and members of the public.

“The Command has also continued to pay particular attention to critical infrastructure, strategic locations and identified security flashpoints across the State.

“Following the closure of the First Niger Bridge for maintenance, I personally led the heads of sister security agencies on an operational assessment of the area and coordinated the deployment of a joint security team to safeguard road users and facilitate the free movement of persons and vehicles.

“We are sustaining surveillance, patrols and intelligence-driven operations around critical locations and other identified areas of security concern.Sir, as we move forward, our priorities remain clear.

“We shall continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and analysis, disrupt criminal networks before they execute their plans, improve response time, protect lives and property, and deepen community participation in policing. We shall also intensify visibility policing and patrols in identified flashpoints, strengthen coordination with sister security agencies, and sustain regular security engagements with traditional institutions and community leaders.

“While the Command remains committed to maximising available resources, we respectfully seek continued support in the areas of training opportunities and other logistics required to enhance our response capability. These interventions will further strengthen our capacity to protect lives and property across Anambra State.

“We shall also continue to work closely with traditional institutions, community leaders, sister security agencies and other stakeholders to build a stronger and more resilient security architecture for the State.

“To this end, Sir, on behalf of the officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command, I wish to appreciate the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc (+)NPM, for his strategic leadership and continued support to the Command.I equally appreciate the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13, Awka AIG Miller Gajere Dantawaye psc, for his continued supervision, guidance and support. We welcome your observations, professional assessment and guidance on our operations, facilities and personnel. We are fully committed to implementing all actionable directives arising from this operational visit.

Finally, Sir, I assure you that the Anambra State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property, maintain law and order, prevent and combat crime, and ensure that the State remains a safe and secure environment for residents, businesses and visitors, the CP concluded.
