The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC) have agreed to explore areas of mutual collaboration to deepen the protection of power infrastructure against vandalism as well as shielding electricity consumers in the state against exploitation .
This agreement was reached on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters, Awka, when the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC), led by its Chairman/Chief Executive, Prof. Frank Nwoye Okafor, paid a courtesy visit to the State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde.
In his remarks, the State Commandant said the Corps’ mandate of protecting critical national, state and local government assets, maintaining public order and safeguarding lives and property, will help drive regulatory innovation, improve electricity access and boost the sustainability of Nigeria’s power sector.
The Anambra NSCDC boss expressed confidence that the Commission would bring positive change to the state’s power sector, noting that stable electricity is vital for economic growth and improved living standards.
He further charged the Commission to operate with openness and effectiveness, adding that earning public confidence is essential for successful regulation.
The State Commandant expressed the Command’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with ASERC in areas of mutual interest, in line with the Corps’ mandate and commitment to the protection of critical national assets.
Earlier, Prof. Frank Nwoye Okafor, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC), stated that his commission’s mandate includes licensing of electricity businesses, protection of consumer rights, enforcement of technical and safety standards, and resolution of disputes within the state’s electricity sector.
He informed the State Commandant that the Commission was established to enhance power supply management in the state and to strengthen regulatory collaboration with relevant stakeholders to advance the development of the evolving electricity market.
The ASERC Chairman/CEO, Prof. Frank Okafor expressed readiness to explore new areas of collaboration with the NSCDC. Highlighting ongoing joint initiatives aimed at improving reliability and expanding supply within franchise areas, he called for stronger collaboration with the Corps to further strengthen regulatory7 frameworks and support the ongoing transformation in line with the provisions of the Anambra State Electricity Law 2025.
