The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama on Thursday, 13th August 2026, called on stakeholders in Anambra North Senatorial District to strengthen collaboration with the Police and other security agencies towards achieving greater safety, security and sustainable peace across the State.
The CP made the call while engaging security stakeholders at the Umueri Civic Centre as part of his ongoing stakeholder engagements across the three Senatorial Districts, aimed at deepening community-based policing, intelligence sharing and collective efforts towards crime prevention.
CP Nnanna emphasized that effective policing cannot be achieved by the Police alone, stressing that traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, youths, women groups and other stakeholders have critical roles to play in preventing crime and ensuring the safety of residents.
He urged stakeholders to maintain open channels of communication with the Police and to promptly provide credible information on suspicious activities, persons and emerging security threats.
As part of efforts to further strengthen direct communication and intelligence gathering, the Commissioner of Police complemented the Command’s existing emergency communication channels with a dedicated WhatsApp line, 09169531886, attached directly to him for the receipt of messages and timely, credible security information from members of the public.
He assured stakeholders that information received through the dedicated channel would be treated with utmost confidentiality and professionally acted upon in line with the law.
The Commissioner of Police also paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, His Majesty, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III) of Obosi as well as the Chairman, Anambra East Local Government Area Council of Traditional Rulers, Hon. Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, and His Royal Majesty, Igwe Bennett Izuchukwu Emeka (Oke-ebo II) Igwe Umueri, who hosted the security stakeholders at his Palace.
The engagements provided an opportunity for the Police leadership and traditional institutions to exchange views on prevailing security challenges, community policing and practical strategies for strengthening security across Anambra North.
CP Nnanna appreciated the traditional institution and other stakeholders for their continued support and partnership with the Police, reiterating the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, rapid response, accountability and respect for the rights of citizens.
In their separate remarks, the traditional ruler of Umueri community, HRH Igwe Ben Emeka (Okebo 11) and the President general of Amiyi community in Ogbaru Local Government Area who is also the Chairman of all President Generals in Anambra North Senatorial District, Comrade Chike Uhugboma, appealed to the CP to address the issue of some over-stayed Police officers in the area, extortion, rebuilding of the abandoned police division at Nzam, the headquarters of Anambra West Local Government Area and the training/retraining of Local Vigilante personnel across the zone.
They commended the CP for organizing the brainstorming session.
Also in attendance include: the Local Government Chairman of Onitsha North local government Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, HRM Igwe Dr. Benjamin Okeji the traditional ruler (Igwe) of Omasi, Chairman of the Anambra North Traditional Rulers Council and Deputy Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, other traditional rulers, President Generals, Women Leaders, members of Police Campaign against cultism and other vices and other relevant stakeholders
