The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) says it is 90 percent ready for the local government council elections scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026, with all electoral materials deployed to the state and personnel trained.
The ANSIEC Commissioner in charge of Information and Publicity, Chief Tony Chinedu, disclosed this on Wednesday, during a press briefing at the Commission’s headquarters in Awka, three days before the election.
Chinedu told journalists, political party leaders, security agencies, civil society groups and the general public that both sensitive and non-sensitive materials have been packed and are ready for deployment to the 21 Local Government Areas, 326 Wards, and 5,200 Polling Units across the state.
“Accreditation and voting will commence exactly at 8:00 AM and close by 400 PM on election day. Voting and accreditation will go on simultaneously at all polling units.
“We have a total of 22 chairmanship and 346 councellorship candidates for the election.
The Commissioner noted that the training of ad hoc staff will be completed in all the LGAs today. He added that two political parties, the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA and Young Progressive Party (YPP) are the only two political parties participating in the election and the process will be on “yes or no” basis in 20 LGAs.
Chinedu reaffirmed ANSIEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election.
He called on candidates, party supporters, and stakeholders to shun violence, assuring that security agencies have been fully deployed to ensure the safety of voters, election officials, and materials.
He equally appeal to Anambra electorates to come out enmasse to vote for candidates of their choice.
