Twenty years after she mysteriously disappeared from home without a trace, the family of Late Chief Augustine Nwosu Maduka of Umuru Village, Ebenesi, Nnobi, in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has announced funeral arrangements in honour of their beloved daughter, Miss Nneka Nwosu.
According to Lady Nkechi David Iwuchukwu, who disclosed this in a statement in Awka on Saturday, Nneka, who was 22 years old at the time of her disappearance, reportedly left home on December 31, 2006, but never returned and has not been found since then.
Her disappearance, which has remained unresolved for nearly two decades, has now culminated in the family’s decision to organise a symbolic farewell in remembrance of a daughter, sister, aunt and niece whose absence has left a lasting void in their lives.
In an emotionally touching funeral announcement titled “Honouring a Beautiful Life 20 Years Later,” the Nwosu family disclosed plans to hold a three-day funeral programme between November 27 and 29, 2026, at their family compound in Nnobi, Anambra State.
The announcement reflects the family’s enduring remembrance of Nneka, whose whereabouts have remained unknown since that fateful New Year’s Eve in 2006.
According to the funeral programme, activities will commence on Friday, November 27, 2026, with a Vigil Mass scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Late Chief Augustine Nwosu’s Compound, Umuru, Ebenesi, Nnobi.
The Funeral Mass will follow on Saturday, November 28, at the same venue, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Relatives, friends, sympathisers and well-wishers are expected to gather immediately after the Mass to offer condolences and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.
The programme will conclude on Sunday, November 29, 2026, with a Thanksgiving and Outing Mass at St. Paul Catholic Church, Umuru, Ebenato, Ebenesi, Nnobi, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The funeral announcement was jointly signed on behalf of the family by Mr. Chukwudi Nwosu, Mr. Azubuike Nwosu, Mr. Okwudili Nwosu, Mr. Obinna Nwosu and Mr. Oliver Nwosu.
In a poignant tribute accompanying Nneka’s photograph, the family expressed its enduring affection and prayers for their missing loved one:
“Nneka, may the light of God shine upon you wherever you are. May your soul rest in peace.”
The announcement presents a particularly emotional dimension to the family’s experience, as Nneka’s disappearance remains unresolved, with no confirmation of her whereabouts contained in the funeral notice.
Her story underscores the painful uncertainty experienced by families whose loved ones disappear without a trace, leaving behind years of unanswered questions, enduring memories and the hope of finding closure.
For the Nwosu family, the forthcoming ceremony represents an opportunity to honour Nneka’s memory, celebrate the beautiful life they shared with her and unite relatives, friends and the community in prayers after almost two decades of separation.
Twenty years may have passed, but for a family that never saw its daughter return home, Nneka’s memory remains alive.
