The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has called on Presidents-General of communities across the state to collaborate with the Police by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and tackling crime.
He said the security of the state is a collective responsibility, noting that effective partnerships among security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and residents remain essential to containing criminal activities.
According to a statement issued by the spokesman for the State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner made the call on Friday while receiving the Association of Presidents-General of Communities in the state.
The CP said the Presidents-General occupy strategic positions in their respective communities and, therefore, have a crucial role to play in supporting the Police and other security agencies in the fight against criminality.
He urged them to place the security and wellbeing of their respective communities at the forefront of their leadership responsibilities.
CP Nnanna urged the PGs to prioritise peace, security and development while fostering closer collaboration with the Police through the provision of timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and tackling crime.
According to him, the security of the state is a collective responsibility, noting that effective partnerships among security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and residents remain essential to containing criminal activities.
The CP, therefore, appealed to all Presidents-General and other community stakeholders to remain vigilant, support lawful security initiatives, and promptly report suspicious activities and persons to the Police.
In his response, the President of the Association of Presidents-General of Communities, Chief Sir Vin Dike, appreciated the Commissioner of Police for granting the association an audience and pledged its continued cooperation, support and partnership with the Police Command.
Dike further assured that, as critical stakeholders in the state, the Presidents-General would use their respective positions to discourage actions and activities capable of undermining peace and security across Anambra State.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community policing and strategic partnerships with community leaders and other stakeholders towards sustaining peace and security across Anambra State.
