Ahead of this year’s November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election, a chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu has stated that the PDP is participate to win.
Nwobu, in an interview with journalists in his Awka office asserted that the PDP is strategising and making frantic efforts to get those they consider as first eleven for the Party.
He explained that the function of a political party is to sponsor a candidate to run for an election, the PDP is sponsoring a candidate for the Anambra State governorship election.
The former State Chairman of PDP, however, admitted that the Party has been having leadership challenges in the recent past which he said both Ndi Anambra and Nigerians in general are aware, stating that the Party’s challenges is not peculiar to local level, but both in the national level.
He said, “This is one state where Party structure has not been in place for the past three to four years. I left office as the elected Chairman of PDP in Anambra State on December 2021 and from that time to last year about October, there was no elected Chairman of the Party. You can imagine an organisation that has challenges in terms of leadership, it is banned to face more Challenges.
“Then, coupled with the challenges internally, the challenges arose at the national front, where there is question of who will be the National Secretary and National Chairman of the Party, group this and group that. So, this is not best time for our Party and that is the truth of the matter, and in the midst of these challenges, timing of the nomination of candidates arose.
“You will agree with me that people who will contest for the election will be sceptical when there is leadership crises and that is where it affects our ability to put those who we will call first eleven in the contest.
“Again, we should bear in mind that it is a party that has its root in Anambra State. When you remember that PDP foundation with Dr Alex Ekweme who was the former Vice President of this country. He was the state block of the party and that led the party being loved by the Anambrarians.
“There is hardly in any home you go in Anambra State and mention PDP, people have conscious of connecting to it. Even those you see in the other political party have one connection to the other in the PDP. Even the current Governor of Anambra State once contested governorship election under PDP. So, to this extent, don’t rule out PDP. PDP is preparing ground to ensure they are involved in the electioneering process in the state.”
Nwobu who doubles as the secretary of PDP elders council Anambra State affirmed that the incumbent Anambra State Governor Professor Charles Chukwuma has impressively done well in the area of infrastructural development but failed in terms of security of the state.
“We must give it to him. He has done well in the area of infrastructural development. You don’t take it away from him. Again there is area he has not done well. Let’s talk of security. He has not done well there. Even last effort he made in the security in this election season, Personally, I call it Aka-Odo style,” he added.
Nwobu unequivocally stated that modern day of security deserves more than what is on the ground as security in Anambra State, saying that if he were one of the advisers to the governor, he would tell him plainly.
“This is not kind of security Ndi Anambra needs for the modern day. We need a security that is technologically thrive. We need a security that if anything happens in Ifite road, within a period of two to three minutes, the whole access roads from Ifite roads would be blocked and the culprits would be apprehended. When you put up such innovation, the criminals will on there own run away.
“I want to see Anambra State where Security is thriving by technology not these Agu-nechemba security. These days. You can see some of them standing on the road and collecting money. Is it what we bargained for? That is not good for us. I said that these types of Security operation is archaic. Aka-Odo and Agu-nechemba is archaic. It is not our modern day security require,” he posited.
The Chairman strategy and planning committee for PDP in Anambra State further faulted the local government election conducted by Governor Soludo in the state, adding that he changed Anambra State law through the house of Assembly just because his Party APGA had challenges.
He emphasised that Solution pipe born water in the state is not true and such Solution pipe bore water is bringing mockery to the governance.
He, however, slammed the Statement of the current Governor where he said he has no contender in the forthcoming election, referring it as wrong statement and arrogance just as he said that it would be Ndi Anambra will determine who will govern them come November 2025.
